Year End Review

2012 is ending and it’s time to take a look back. After doing the 52 Book Challenge in 2011, I had finally figured out what I wanted to do for a living. I started working on getting my degree this year and can’t wait until I finally get there. It will be a good feeling.

I read 80 books last year. I wanted to try for 100 this year.

I read 125.

Books have always been my way of escaping my real life. Having the ability to read a few words and be transported to somewhere else is why I love reading. I get fully engrossed and the real world fades away. It’s the best feeling in the world.

I wrote a book this year. It’s about the summer trips my grandparents used to take my sister, my cousin, and me on. It’s only for me and my family, but still…I wrote a book. Reading all these books throughout my life has given me a love of words and I finally feel comfortable enough to try my hand at writing the book I want to read.

So in 2013, my goals are to keep doing well in my classes, read 100 books again, and to write my own book. Those are pretty lofty goals, but I’m up for the challenge.

Thank you all for reading my reviews and I hope you all have a fantastic new year.

Hooked by Liz Fichera Book Trailer Reveal!

Every morning, I check my Twitter, my Facebook, and finally my email before I even roll out of bed. This past Thursday, however, I shot out of bed uncharacteristically fast when I saw the HarlequinTeen cover reveal for Liz Fichera’s Hooked. It’s pretty simple and doesn’t have a lot of fanfare.

For some reason, though, I just had to put it down on my “Get it the Moment It’s Released” list. Maybe it was the pink lettering. I don’t really know. Whatever the reason, I put the January 2013 release date on my calendar even before reading the book blurb. When I finally got around to the blurb, I knew my gut reaction had been correct. There’s not much story given away, and yet I’m unnaturally excited to read this book. From Goodreads, the blurb reads:

“Sparks fly when a Native American girl with a killer swing joins the boys’ varsity golf team and takes on the boy with the killer smile. Don’t miss this heartwarming and emotional new romantic contemporary!”

Then, on Friday it was announce book bloggers could send a message to Liz Fichera and be some of the first people to post the book trailer to their websites. Of course, I jumped on the opportunity. When I received the email with the video link, I’ll admit I watched it several times. Each time, my excitement and desire for it to be 2013 already increased. And now I get to share the trailer with you! So without further ado, the book trailer to Liz Fichera’s Hooked.

End of the Year Thoughts

2011 is almost over and I feel the need to write a little post on how what started as a reading challenge changed into something more.

I wasn’t in the best place last year when I decided to take on the 52 Book Challenge. I was looking for something I knew I could do and that I would be good at. I needed something to make me happy for a little while. Reading has always been that for me, so I took on the challenge.

A couple of weeks in, things started to change for me. My passion for reading was reignited and something in me started to come alive again. I was thinking about myself and what I wanted to do with my life. Because of this challenge, I finally know what I want to do with my life and it feels amazing. I’m feeling happier than I’ve been in a long time.

This simple reading challenge really changed me for the better. It not only rekindled my love of reading, but it brought a new clarity to my life that I had been trying to find for a long time. My real life may not always be the best place to be, but I know I can always find a great place to escape by picking up a book and diving in.

My new goal for 2012 is to read and review 100 books. It’s going to be a bit more of a challenge, since I’m also going to try my hand at writing one. But I’m looking forward to it and can’t wait to start.

The Start

So I’m not sure of a few things. I’m not sure how to really work this site, for one. That’ll be a learning process for sure. I’m not sure I’ll be able to actually complete 52 books in 52 weeks, but I’m going to try.

I decided to start this after doing random Google searched and coming across a blog from someone you had started doing this last year. The idea is pretty simple. Read one book a week for a year. I love to read, and this seems like a good way to keep me motivated.

I’m not sure what I’ll be using this blog for; probably to ramble about the books I’m reading and maybe even give a review or two. I’ll figure that out as I go.

This all starts tomorrow and I’m ready. I’ve got my first book picked out and I’m ready to go.
